Overcast, fairly low humidity and warm, but not hot. A perfect day to visit the French Quarter!
From where we're staying at the state park, the ferry is the quickest and by far the easiest way to get to Jackson Square and the French Quarter. We headed out early for Algiers Point to pick up the ferry.
Algiers Point is the second oldest neighborhood in New Orleans. And is a short (eight minute)
ferry ride to the Riverfront.

Algiers Point is populated with homes dating back to the 1840's; it still has the feel of a quiet
19th century small town...

From the ferry terminal (Canal and River Road), you can pick up a street car to go up Canal Street. We chose to walk along the river to Cafe du Mond, about a one and one half mile walk...

house of the rising sun. legend has it that this is the brothel that inspired the song (the two earliest recordings date back to 1930's Appalachia). many people believe that this was a women's prison that had a rising sun on the gate. |
