Our Great Adventure ~ September on the Pisgah

September, 2018

The month of September was one of the hottest Septembers on record. Temps are still in the mid to upper 80's and the humidity continues.

Have I told you about the white squirrels?? Brevard (two miles from us) is home to a rare white, not albino, squirrel population. They're quite the tourist attraction. Brevard holds the White Squirrel Festival each year and various shops are named after the white squirrel. The squirrels are descendants from an escaped carnival animal...

look closely and you'll see a gray smudge-like spot on his forehead. all gray squirrels
have this gray smudge

Friday, September 14

the road from us. So, off we went...

Florence is about to make her appearance here in North Carolina. A mandatory forest evacuation is underway. Roadside campsites are being evacuated, forest roads are being gated, all campgrounds are being closed. We moved out from under the canopy to the work center...

thankfully, the winds were not as high as expected

Friday, September 21

it was about ten degrees cooler here than at the bottom of the mountain

Saturday, September 29

Today we went to a "pink out" softball tourney to raise money for breast cancer research. A friend of ours daughter was playing. The tourney was held in Kingsport, Tennessee...
