Holidays in the Hill Country

Friday November 21, 2014

We awoke this morning to sunny skies; a great day for traveling. After saying goodbye to our Nomad friends, we hooked up our fifth wheel and headed west to Texas...

Mississippi River

West of Baton Rouge, this bridge came into view...

As you know, I am not a fan of heights or of bridges.  It was a quick up and then down.  Thankfully the bridge was less than a mile long.  We continued on to Lafayette, Louisiana where we stayed at the Frog City RV Park...

We'd only planned on spending one night here.  A quick check of the weather showed nasty weather heading into Houston the next day.  As Houston was our next stop, we thought it prudent to stay put and ride out the weather.  Thankfully, the storms that hit Houston decreased dramatically in strength by the time they reached us in Lafayette.

We made good use of our extra day in Lafayette.  It's a very nice city, somewhat larger than what we expected.  There is great shopping as well as dining here.  We love the Cajun and Creole food here in Louisiana.  Not knowing when we'd be back, we decided to dine at Randols...the food is great!  If you're ever in Lafayette, Randols is a "must"...

Sunday, November 23

We checked the weather; the storms had all moved out.  Under overcast skies we headed to Houston.  It wasn't long before the clouds moved out and the sun began to shine...

We spent the night in Brookshire, just west of Houston, at West Houston RV Park.

Monday, November 24

Once again, we awoke to overcast skies and rain.  More of a drizzle than rain...

Ah well, it's only a few hours to Ingram where we will be staying for the winter...this is our fourth winter staying here.  We love it and it is "home" to us...

Holidays in the Hill Country...

Thirty minutes after our arrival at Johnson Creek, Sue & Glen pulled in...they were here to spend Thanksgiving with family...

they were only here for a week, we were sad to see them leave

Thanksgiving found us at Western Town (one of two club houses located within the park) for a potluck/turkey dinner with all the trimmings...

lots & lots of food.  the turkeys were being sliced...

A great time was had by all...

While the majority of the country spent their time hitting the malls on Black Friday, Ron and I helped to decorate the main Club House...

Krista on table cloth duty

lots of boxes

we need to find a "home" for these

getting there...

viola!! isn't it beautiful!

Comfort is another town located in the Hill Country.  It also happens to be the home of my all-time favorite yarn shop, The Tinsmith's Wife.  Every year on Thanksgiving Weekend, Comfort hosts "Christmas in Comfort".  Naturally, we had to check it out...

the town was all decked out in its holiday finery...

lots of people; all having a good time

Comfort has their own version of the Fantasy of Lights Parade.  We left before the parade began and  stopped on the way home and purchaseed our Christmas Tree...

Tis the Season to Eat, Drink & Be Merry...

Quite a few of us went for lunch at Camp Verde, which was beautifully decorated with Christmas Trees and wreaths...

We also went to Cafe on the Ridge for more Christmas cheer...

Monday nights are game nights...

Pictionary

Marks turn to draw

Cliff's turn

The weather was beautiful...we took a drive to Boerne (another city located in the Hill Country).  It was a great day to walk along the river....

ducks were everywhere

even bronzed and on rocks!

Our Christmas Day dinner was held in the Clubhouse...once again great, great fellowship, great times...

We're thoroughly enjoying our time here.  We look forward to lots more fun and fellowship in the days to come.

2014 has been a great year for us ~ a year in which we traveled to new cities, saw amazing sights and met some great people.  We wish that 2015 will be a year of joy-filled year of peace and health for all.

Blessings,

Dawn, Ron & Coop
